Apple Bus Tours 2010

Week Tour

Stuart Hale has developed and facilitated New Zealand’s most popular and longest running tour of schools with the focus on eLearning and the ICT’s that support this. In the last 14 years over 1400 teachers from New Zealand and overseas have taken part in what many have called “the most significant Professional Development of their careers.”

Leading New Zealand educational commentator, Gordon Dryden, refers to this bus tour in his latest book Unlimited  as - “World leading training in new concepts in ICT being offered - in NZ!”

RED Bus Tours provide a way for you to link ICT and the new curriculum through:

  • Effective learning that is child centred, activity based and experiential.
  • Demonstration of how eLearning can assist in the creation of supportive learning environments by offering resources that take account of individual, cultural and developmental differences.

On the tour you will visit 6 exemplary schools in Auckland and Tauranga where you will experience:

  • Integration of ICT through curriculum that is child-centred and enables pupils to take responsibility for their own learning.
  • Strong links between Inquiry Learning, Integrated Curriculum, Thinking Skills & ICT Tools.
  • Growth and encouragement of interdependence through Authentic opportunities for developing student voice, such as podcasting, student TV and other innovations.
  • Exploration of the use of mobile devices to enhance ICT access and ways to implement a richer digital environment for students.
  • Focus on every child integrating ICTs in their learning in a deliberate and planned model
  • Student portfolio work emphasising reflective practice & use of ICT in all subjects.
  • Student centred planning & learning with focused, measurable goals.
  • Discussion on factors that can achieve change in schools and its implementation.

There will be a number of opportunities to take part in hands-on workshops on leading ICTs that are observed during the tour both in schools and as part of the tour itself.

Throughout the tour a collaborative summary of the schools visited will be developed. On the last day an action plan will be formulated for each school / cluster based on this collaborative summary. This will result in a concise practical document that will enable both short and long term goals to be formulated and then monitored by each school that has participated.
